Social Challenges

Social Challenge is an attempt to achieve a goal through conversation, connections or social pressure.
• Avoid conflict through diplomacy
• Gain sensitive information
• Gain a favour

Social Challenges follow normal rules for Challenges. Adventurer describes their approach deciding among other things whether they approach through, persuasion, humor, intimidation, cunning questioning, honesty or other. Bearer decides if the approach is Fitting, Uncertain or Impossible.
When leveraging existing relationships, owed favours or key information approach might be Fitting and no Tests are necessary. This is also true if Adventurer has the right thing to say for the moment.

When the approach is Uncertain make a Presence Test.

Sometimes social approach is Impossible. Some favours are too big to ask, there is no trust or it is not in the beings nature to cooperate.

At any time Adventurers can ask questions from the Bearer or in character from the being they are talking to. Answers should highlight methods and blocks for diplomacy.

Intimidation

Threatening a being into cooperation can push them into giving information or favours they would never give otherwise, however the effect is fleeting. When the intimidated being is no longer within Adventurers sphere of influence the effect ends.

Attempts to intimidate a being within heart of their power are Impossible. Possessing key information or other leverage may change this.

Negotiation

Negotiations can be handled with an Arduous Challenge. At the end both parties commit to the agreed terms and wishes.
• The side that initiated the negotiation will set the base wish
• The other party will set their terms for accepting this wish. Initiating party can offer their alternatives
• If both parties can accept the terms, make a Test for each pair of terms. Success means Adventurers terms are accepted, failure means npc terms are accepted

Negotiation can be abandoned at any time. Nothing is given and nothing is gained. New negotiations are unlikely.
